Smartphones and Devices

At RPS, we prioritise focused learning and personal development. While smartphones, smartwatches, and other digital devices have a place in today’s world, we do not encourage their use for non-educational purposes during the school day. We recognise that these technologies require responsible skills and appropriate supervision. To support this, any child who brings a phone, smartwatch, music player or similar device to school is required to leave it at the office for safekeeping until the end of the day.

We understand that navigating children’s use of digital devices can be challenging for families. For further advice and support, we recommend exploring resources from Smartphone Free Childhood, Safer Schools SMART Guidance, and the Department for Education’s mobile phone guidance. Our safeguarding policies are aligned with national guidance, including the Department for Education’s Using Technology in Education and the NSPCC’s age-appropriate advice for families. These offer practical strategies for parents and carers, as well as insights into how schools can create safe, distraction-free environments that support children’s wellbeing and learning.

We encourage families to explore these resources and to speak with us if they would like further support in managing their child’s use of technology at home.
